What Documents Do You Need to Apply for Auto Financing?

Preparing to apply for auto financing can come with lots of questions. Whether you’re wondering what questions are included in the application or what can be used as proof of residency, we can help. PA Auto Credit outlines the documents you need to apply for financing.

Proof of Identity

Before you can apply, you’ll need to establish your identity. Many buyers use a valid driver’s license as proof of identity because you’ll also need it for the test drive. However, you can also use your passport, a military ID, or a state-issued photo ID.

Proof of Income

When you apply, we’ll ask questions about your income because it shows how much you can afford. You’ll also need to show proof of income. This can be done with your most recent pay stubs (preferably in the last 30 days), your latest W-2 forms, or your last two years of tax returns if you’re self-employed.

Proof of Residency

We’ll also ask questions about your current mortgage or rent, since it's typically a large part of people’s expenses. You’ll need to show proof of residency when you apply. This can be a recent utility bill with your name on it, your mortgage statement, or your lease agreement.

Proof of Insurance

To buy a new vehicle, you need to show that you have auto insurance. Proof of coverage is needed to finance your vehicle, as well as register it. If you don’t have current coverage (which can be transferred), you’ll need to shop around for coverage before you apply.
